Edinburg Raceway in the Texas Rio Grande Valley has been shaking down a Hellcat all week to get people to come out to tonight's "Hellcat Track Attack".

With VP109 + Drag radials they cut a 1.599 60ft and pulled a 10.483 at 133.53 mph. Beast of a run. It's supposed to be on video, so we'll see what kind of set up they went with. I doubt they went with drag radials on the 20" stock rims.

Currently in south Texas it's absolutely perfect drag racing weather, so we'll see if they can go even faster tonight at the main event.

Aw, the Rio Grande Valley. The reason I rarely eat Mexican food north of Corpus Christi (the main exception is Anamia's Tex Mex in Plano).

Do you live in the Valley?

So, it's fast enough out of the box to need a 5 point cage?

Yeah, as soon as you put drag radials on it and it becomes "modified", some tracks are going to take issue with the speed.

I'm not an experience drag racer, so what would it take to get the Hellcat into the 9s? Tune? Different pulley for more boost? Stripped interior? What kind of HP are we talking?

I'm guessing that making up half a second when you're already trapping 133 isn't trivial.

It's a Chrysler, so they're notoriously difficult to tune as the PCM is locked down. It'll be some time before any real tuning starts happening. Without tuning, a pulley will be useless, as the car would probably freak/go into limp mode from overboost.

BUT, the car seems to move so hard....I'd be REALLY curious to see how much lower they can go with flat out weight reduction. Strip out the interior and put some light wheels on it.

OR....I small bit of spray.
